Along with candidates for office, the state Republican and Democratic parties qualified their electors to the Electoral College recently.
These are the folks who actually elect the president of the United States, according to Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution. Georgia has 15 electors, which is the number of U.S. representatives and senators added together. Whichever candidate wins Georgia, all of his or her party's electors get to vote.
Many of these folks are elected officials, and most of the rest have political titles and credentials that could take half of Political Notebook to list. So, since we're afraid to leave out someone's title, we're just listing the names. There are several Middle Georgians.
For the Republicans: Esther Clark, Dennis Coxwell, Norma Edenfield, Randy Evans, Sue Everhart, Leigh Ann Gillis, Judy Goddard, Linda Herren, Rufus Montgomery, Clint Murphy, Sunny Park, Alec Poitevint, John Sours, Allan Vigil and John White.
And for the Democrats: Jane Kidd, Michael Thurmond, Calvin Smyre, DuBose Porter, Robert Brown, Shirley Franklin, Thurbert Baker, Tommy Irvin, Carolyn Hugley, Winfred Dukes, Michael Jablonski, Richard Ray, Roy Barnes, Lawrie Demorest and Shi Shailendra.
