4 1.  Chairman’s Corner - October 2007

On Thursday, September 27, 2007, there was an opportunity to attend activities surrounding the American Solutions Day.  Neal Boortz, as well as Sean Hannity, broadcast live from the Cobb Galleria that day.  It was a great day to be able to meet and talk with the concerned citizens with similar interests and values.  Neal Boortz’s Executive Producer, Belinda, and I went to high school together. She is a dynamic individual and Neal is very blessed to have her working with him. In addition, there was a brief opportunity to speak with Sean Hannity prior to the radio show! He is a genuinely likeable gentleman that could actually be a role model for today’s youth. Talk radio is one of the few ways in America that conservatives have to balance the mainstream national media and the deliberate attempt to frame the debate and public opinion.

The event Thursday was led by former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich. Many of you may not know this, but some of Gingrich’s first official ties to politics occurred right here in the Ninth Congressional District of Georgia. When Newt asked where I lived, he mentioned Claysville, Georgia (north Fannin County) and one of his first ever campaign events. At the time, he was working for a Republican candidate running for Congress. The experience and lessons from those initial campaigns with other Republicans eventually led Speaker Gingrich to seek office himself.

With Newt’s “official” announcement that he is not running for President this weekend, the field of viable Republican candidates appears to be set at this time.  We have some outstanding servant leaders who are seeking to become your nominee as President of United States on the Republican ticket.  Regardless of your personal preference, remember that we are all working together to find the best candidate who can represent out party, but more importantly, find the person who is most capable of providing the principle-based leadership that our country will continue to need. During the next several months, remember Reagan’s 11th Commandment: thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican. Our central focus in our Republican primary should be the following question: Can the United States economically and/or morally afford the promises already made by Hillary or Obama, or any of the other “free lunch” Democratic candidates wanting to be the next Commander-in-Chief?
