2009 Convention Cycle

 December 16, 2008

In the next couple of days, each county will begin receive your state call packet for the 2009 county, district, and state conventions.

There are several dates that need to be on your calendar:

  1. For counties over 80,000 (Hall and Forsyth), your mass precinct meetings will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009.
  2. The county conventions will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2009. For counties under 80,000, the mass precinct meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m., and the county convention will begin at 10:00 a.m.
  3. The 9th District Banquet will be Friday, April 17, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Appalachian Technical Institute in Jasper, Georgia.
  4. The 9th District Convention will be Saturday, April 18, 2009, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Appalachian Technical Institute in Jasper, Georgia.
  5. The Georgia GOP state convention will be held on May 15-16 at the Savannah Trade Center.

A couple of items are also important:

  1. If a county under 80,000 would prefer to hold their mass precinct meetings on February 7, 2009 (instead of 9:00 a.m. before the 10:00 a.m. county convention) should submit the request to the State Executive Committee no later than January 9, 2009.
  2. Make SURE you begin locating a LOCATION for your county precinct meetings and mass conventions.
  3. Make sure you are aware of the PUBLISHING deadlines that need to go in your local newspaper (legal organ).
  4. Make sure you appoint the necessary chairmen and members of the COMMITTEES (credentials, rules, nominating, refreshments, etc…) that are necessary to do the convention of your county business.

If you are planning to seek reelection as your county’s chairman, or if you have chosen to not run again, would you please let me know? Since the purpose of the 2009 conventions is to elect the leadership to guide our party for the next two years, there will probably be several leadership changes across North Georgia. There are a number of items that are currently being examined, and I would like to know the status of our county chairs as we head into this convention cycle.

Again, the state will be sending the county chairs this information, but I wanted to make sure everyone was prepared.

It has truly been an honor to serve as your district chair. Regardless of what the future holds in 2009, this has been an historical election year for North Georgia. Thanks to each of you for the role that you played in the most successful year in the history of the 9th District GOP.  It has been an honor working with each of you for the last two years.  It is my hope that the 9th District builds on our success going into the 2010 election cycle.
